The Mountains

Where is Afriski?

Afriski is located high in the Maluti Mountains in northern Lesotho, at an altitude of 3 222m above sea level.

Will I need my passport?

Yes — Lesotho is an independent country so you will be crossing an international border. South African citizens can enter on their SA green ID book or smart card. All other nationalities require a valid passport.

How long is the drive there?

From Johannesburg it is approximately 4–5 hours via the Caledonspoort border post. The drive through the Maluti Mountains is spectacular and well worth the journey.

Will I need my own skis or board?

No — Afriski has a fully equipped rental store where you can hire skis, boots, snowboards, helmets, and all necessary equipment from top brands.

What about skiing clothing?

Gone Skiing in Fourways, Johannesburg (and right here at Afriski) stocks all the latest skiing styles. Look the part and stay stylish and safe on the slopes in all the top brands.

I’ve never skied before — how hard is it?

Not hard at all with proper instruction. Afriski’s internationally qualified ski instructors will have you carving the slopes in no time. We offer lessons for all levels from complete beginners to advanced. The Pudi Ski Area and Magic Carpet Lift are perfect for kids and first-timers.

Will there be enough snow?

Afriski uses a modern snowmaking system to supplement natural snowfall, ensuring reliable conditions throughout the winter season. Check the Resort Status page for live snow conditions.

Is Afriski open in summer?

Yes! Afriski is a year-round mountain resort. In summer the mountains turn green and there are incredible activities including mountain biking, 4×4 trails, fly fishing, hiking, adventure biking, monster rollers, and more.
